The Carbon Wave is here

Looking for a book to give you a new perspective on climate change as well as practical tools that can help you get started today at a scale and scope that fits your busy life? Look no further than a new book, The Carbon Wave, from Leah Stokes, “professor of environmental politics, energy policy wonk, activist, and writer. During the Biden administration, she also became a DC insider and was integral to the development and passage of the Inflation Reduction Act – THE biggest climate law in history.”

Stokes wants to dismantle idea of the carbon footprint - which Ayana Elizabeth Johnson calls “that evil/brilliant phrase from the fossil fuel industry” and instead replace it with a carbon wave. Stokes clarifies what she means on the book’s website - “[E]veryone has been told to shrink their carbon footprint and lighten their load on our planet by changing their behavior. But what if instead of making ourselves smaller, we joined with others to maximize our impact? That’s the carbon wave. And this book shows us how to make it.”

The website will also help you begin to create your own carbon wave with a section of book club discussion questions if you’d like to read with a group of friends or neighbours.

The book is available at all the usual places and why not ask your library to bring in a copy if they don’t have one?
