Renewables setting records in Australia

Earlier this month a new record was set in Australia. Renewable energy reached the highest level of electricity demand at 76.4%. The previous record was 75.9% and was set in November 2024. To make up the rest of the demand was coal (24.5%) and gas (0.7%).

For the renewable sources, rooftop solar contributed more than half of the electricity, followed by wind which provided close to one third of the energy, then large scale solar and hydro.

Spring in Australia is often when these records are set as the conditions for solar and wind energy are good while energy demand is lower than summer.
