Plastics vs planet for Earth Day

Today is Earth Day.

This year’s theme is focused on plastics, which are everywhere in our daily life.

Did you know?

  • Only 9% of plastics worldwide is recycled? The rest is primarily incinerated or put in landfills.  [source TCA]
  • 500 billion plastic bags were produced last year, equal to 61 bags for every person on the planet
  • Producing a plastic water bottle needs 6x more water than the bottle itself holds
  • Microplastics (the result of plastic breaking down) have been found in animals, marine life and humans

Earthday.org has launched a campaign to reduce plastic production by 60% by the year 2040.

Consider celebrating Earth Day by visiting Earthday.org for more information on how plastics impact our health as well as general knowledge quizzes, fact sheets and more.
