Personal actions that make an impact

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with how to help with climate change? You're not alone. That feeling of individual powerlessness is one of the biggest barriers to climate action—but it doesn't have to be.

Climate scientist Dr. Kimberly Nicholas from Lund University and the research-based solutions group Project Drawdown have worked together to help us use our personal power. They've created The Shift (The Super High-Impact Initiative for Fixing Tomorrow)—a science-backed guide that highlights the most impactful actions.

Instead of a long list of options, The Shift organizes these actions into five practical "superpowers":

  • Citizen - voting, advocacy, community organizing
  • Professional - integrate sustainability at your workplace
  • Investor - directing your money toward climate solutions and away from fossil fuels
  • Consumer - strategic purchasing decisions that drive market change
  • Role Model - inspiring others through your visible actions

Think voting in local elections, transitioning your workplace to renewable energy, divesting from fossil fuels, choosing electric transportation, or sharing your climate story to inspire others.

Ready to discover your climate superpowers? Take their assessment and receive an action guide so you’ll know how you can make the biggest impact.

Many of these ideas connect with what we’ve already explored in The Daily Difference—so you may be further along than you think.
