The Goldman Environmental Prize celebrates the work of grassroots environmental activists from around the world.

The 2026 winners were just announced, one from each of the regions of Africa, Asia, Europe, Islands & Island Nations, North America, and South & Central America.
Meet Sarah from England who helped improve environmental laws in the UK. Alannah worked on behalf of 15 tribal nations to stop the proposed Pebble Mine megaproject in Alaska’s Bristol Bay region. In South Korea, Borim helped create change by taking the government to court for its climate policy and winning. Iroro protected the Nigerian habitat of the endangered short-tailed roundleaf bat from wildfires. Theonila secured environmental justice for residents of Papua New Guinea from the world’s second largest mining company. Finally, Yuvelis helped prevent commercial fracking in Colombia.
