Solar, wind and water are major sources of renewable energy and countries are adapting to their natural opportunities when designing, building and bringing on line renewable energy facilities.
India, the most populated country, has focused investments in capacity on solar and is expected to add 42.5 GW this year. This represents more than a 10% increase of the record 37.9 GW capacity installed in 2025. In 2025, India's solar installation represented about 7% of the 511 GW of solar installed globally. The majority of the 37.9 GW came from utility-scale solar followed by roof-top.
To give some context, one GW of electricty is 1 billion watts which can power 100 million LED bulbs.
As India is home to some of the most polluted cities in the word, using solar energy will help to reduce emissions and improve air quality, while providing a reliable source of energy.
