Hopefully you haven’t had to visit a hospital recently but if you had, how was the food? Chances are it wasn’t that great but it’s also possible that along with being unappetizing and not very nutritious it also is not that good for the planet.
A National Observer article highlighted groups like Nourish in Canada, where “hospitals spend more than $4 billion annually on food services” are trying to enable a ‘triple win’ by using “the purchasing power of our health systems in alignment with Canada's new, plant-rich food guide and prioritize local options” to increase the amount of money that stays locally. This will provide “jobs and makes us less reliant on imports from other countries struggling with climate disruption, while we improve human health, and reduce the water and land use, and greenhouse gas emissions associated with our food.”
Like to learn more and see if you can bring the Nourish message to your healthcare system (even if you're not in Canada) go to their site. They’ve also got a great video for you to share.
