At the end of next month, ghouls, goblins, superheroes and more will be seen in the streets as the day turns to Halloween night.
It is a day that is looked forward to by many.
It is also a day that brings ‘extras’. Extra plastic and waste through costumes and decorations.
What if we gave existing materials a spotlight role? Read on, it's not that scary.
The Daily Difference yesterday talked about setting up a costume swap party with friends or creating one from scratch. Perhaps there is even the option to rent a costume for the night.
For decorations, look around your home and in nature to see what can be upcycled into decorations. Save those cardboard boxes and make tombstone decorations. String or rope combined with a hula hoop make interesting spider webs. Pair a string of lights with an old wood cutting board and you have a light-up jack-o-lantern decoration.
What about choosing real pumpkins over plastic versions? Not only can you carve them, you can roast the seeds. And when done, the pumpkin can be turned into soup or cut into pieces to decompose in a garden or composted.
Let's trick or treat with less plastic and less waste this year.
