The Australian government has introduced a new program that would provide free power for three hours a day. The goal of the program is to shift demand away from peak periods, help lower electricity bills and use the abundance of solar energy when it is available during the day.
Homes with a smart meter in New South Wales, south-east Queensland and South Australia will be able to participate in the program.
Australia has over 4 million households with installed solar, which represents over 40% of households in the country.
