Day for the forests

Today is International Day of Forests.

Did you know that:

  • Forests cover almost a third of the Earth’s surface.
  • Forests are important to help with climate change as they absorb carbon dioxide, in the significant amounts (billions of metric tonnes)
  • Over 10 million hectares are deforested every year. This is equivalent to almost four times the size of Hawaii.

They are an important part of our environment, not only by helping to mitigate climate change but also providing a home for many insects, animals, birds, plants and fungi and a place where we can find some solitude while forest bathing.

Hoping you can find some time to be in the forest or at the very least, appreciate the trees in your area.
