Considering convenience

Consider a plastic utensil.

It is often described as convenient. Use it once and then throw it away.

But what is involved in making the plastic version?

  • Extract oil from the earth
  • Transport it to a refinery
  • Make it into plastic
  • Mold it into the needed shape
  • Ship it to the store or restaurant

Isn’t it more convenient to simply wash the metal version we have already?
