The Earthshot Prize winners will be announced next month. Prizes are awarded in five categories and one of the categories is Fix our Climate.
The three finalists in this category are: Barbados, Form Energy and Friendship.
Barbados, Barbados
Like many nations in the Global South, Barbados is responsible for very little of the total greenhouse gas emissions but disproportionately suffers more of the impact of climate change. The recovery from disasters is expensive and often nations need to borrow in order to finance the recovery. Barbados is looking to change that. Watch the video to learn about this innovative financial reform that Barbados is hopeful will spread to other climate-vulnerable nations.
Form Energy, USA
Form Energy is looking to build energy storage to help cope with the increasing electricity demands around the world and support the adoption of renewable energy. Through a battery that has only three ingredients - iron, water and air - it can store electricity for up to 100 hours and is more cost effective than batteries that use lithium. This video gives an overview of Form Energy’s vision.
Friendship, Bangladesh
Friendship is a social purpose organization helping people in Bangladesh who have been impacted by climate change. The organization offers support for health and education while also aiding in preparing for natural disasters. As a coastal community, Bangladesh is particularly vulnerable and Friendship is there to help the communities develop their resilience and knowledge so they are ready for the next climate event.
