Part eight of a ten part series: Diving into The Carbon Almanac
Climate change conversations can be charged, can be scary, can evoke shame.
You can shy away because you believe you need to be an avid climate activist to talk about climate change or maybe you have thought: “I do not lead a fully sustainable life. Am I allowed to talk about climate?' or “I do care about the environment, but I can’t stop eating meat. Can I be a part of any kind of sustainability community?’
We are all human, and by no means perfect/so obviously we aren’t perfect. The good news is we don’t need perfection. What we do need is curiosity and commitment to start this important conversation with a friend because the conversation is an essential step in creating change.
Need some tips on how to have a productive conversation? Try to:
- Ask open ended questions
- Affirm to encourage a genuine idea exchange
- Engage in reflective listening
- Recap what you heard
And remember to offer to buy your friend a coffee or tea (in a reusable cup of course)!
