Windows as solar panels?

Imagine if every window in your house and the thousands of windows in office towers around the world not only offered a view of the outside but also captured the sun’s energy and reduced our reliance on fossil fuels?

Scientists in Switzerland are working towards a solution to have windows efficiently generate electricity from solar.  The solution is transparent solar cells that convert all visible light into energy.

The scientists recently achieved a “new efficiency record” for the technology and are now one step closer to wide-spread adoption. By increasing the efficiency, they are addressing a challenge with current products on the market - limited generating capacity.

Each year, more energy is generated from solar, but in 2021, it only accounted for “3.6% of global electricity generation”. As advances are made with solar, we will be able to increase that percentage and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, which helps reduce our carbon emissions.
