What are governments doing about food waste?

There is global recognition that food waste not only impacts the environment but it also has a social impact. The United Nations has set the goal of cutting food waste by 50% globally by 2030.

In the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) together set the U.S. 2030 Food Loss and Waste Reduction goal. Originally set in 2015, the goal was redefined in 2021 to include more categories of waste.  The goal seeks to cut food loss and waste in half by the year 2030.
