While Typhoon Haikui forced many wind turbines to shut down, it also helped the world's largest turbine set a record. On September 1st, the turbine produced 384.1 megawatt hours (MWh) in 24 hours which would power approximately 170,000 homes.
This turbine, which is located offshore from China, has the functionality to adjust its blades which allows it to operate in typhoon conditions and capture the power of the winds.
The previous record had just be set in August.
These record setting numbers show continued promise for wind power to produce large amounts of renewable power.
