The buzz on bee lawns

We are reliant on bees for most of the food we eat.

We can easily help the bees by adapting our turfgrass to bee-friendly versions. Turfgrass, which needs lots of water and often chemicals to achieve the lush green lawn look, doesn’t provide much food for bees.  And you don’t have to have a lawn. A planted pot of white clover or creeping thyme is helpful.

Imagine having your government supporting your actions to help the bee population.  The state of Minnesota offered rebates to residents who converted their turfgrass lawns to bee-friendly versions.

Is there a program like that in your community? Could you find five friends and reach out to your government representative and ask for support?
