Julian Melchiorri is an inventor and engineer whose designs are based in nature. In 2015, he founded Arborea, which is a company dedicated to finding sustainable methods of producing food on a large scale.
Arborea is carbon-neutral, uses a very small area of land and water, compared to traditional agricultural methods. The company’s products consist of various proteins that are harvested from microalgae which performs photosynthesis more effectively than trees. This process is made possible by Arborea’s Biosolar Leaf. The Biosolar Leaf resembles solar panels, and as it doesn’t need fertile land for the algae to grow, it can be installed on roof tops, among other places.
Arborea is just one company that is looking for ways of producing products that are more sustainable, and hopefully these companies continue to grow and become more widespread.
