Scary facts about bottled water

Expensive marketing campaigns try to convince us that bottled water is healthier than tap water.  There are places where this is true, though it should not be.

In other places, those campaigns don’t ring true.  In fact, tap water can be more tightly regulated than that bottle of fresh spring water.

Bottled water isn’t healthier for the environment either.  The plastic bottles often end up in landfills where they don’t biodegrade.  And production requires fossil fuels.

If this isn’t scary enough, demand is growing. In the US for example, bottled water is more popular than soft drinks and 50 billion bottles of water are sold annually.

Maybe tap water needs a better marketing campaign.
