Have you heard of regenerative ocean farming? If you haven’t check out the fabulous book Eat Like a Fish: My Adventures as a Fisherman Turned Restorative Ocean Farmer by Bren Smith (take a moment and read an excerpt).
Regenerative ocean farming, in the words of Bren Smith hits “the climate sweet spot, requiring no fresh water, fertilizer, or feed—while sequestering carbon, rebuilding reefs, and creating economic opportunities for coastal communities hard hit by climate change”.
GreenWave was founded “in order to replicate and scale regenerative ocean farming” and since 2017 “has trained and supported more than 900 emerging ocean farmers and hatchery technicians”.
If you live in a coastal community check out the GreenWave website to see what opportunities for regenerative ocean farming might be in your region. Don’t live near the sea? Keep your eyes open for new food products grown sustainably in the ocean and paying a dividend of carbon sequestration.
