Imagine a parking lot that does more than just offer you a place to leave your car. A multi-purpose space that also generates energy, with the side benefit of giving cars and people protection from the elements.
France has not only envisioned this parking lot but is mandating it. The French Senate has approved a bill that requires parking lots with 80 or more spaces to install solar panels above the lot which cover at least half of the lot’s area.
Reimagining these existing spaces not only adds clean energy to the grid (estimated to be equivalent to ten nuclear reactors) but it helps to solve a challenge with solar panels; the need for land space is significant for an installation.
This is an innovative example of reusing infrastructure for the benefit of the planet. Could you help drive this idea forward where you live?
