Keeping it (climate friendly) cool at the supermarkets

There is a worldwide project called the Climate Friendly Supermarket that captures information about the refrigeration systems in supermarkets.

Why is this important?

Some refrigerators still use HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons) as coolants, which are very powerful at capturing heat. In fact, one molecule of HFC can capture 1000 to 9000 times more heat than one molecule of carbon dioxide. Project Drawdown suggests that replacing HFCs with alternate coolants is one of the best solutions to address climate change.

Want to help?

It is easy to participate. Next time you are shopping, remember these  few easy steps to complete. Then check back to see if your store has been added to the map.

With this information, we as consumers can make informed choices to shop at the climate-friendly supermarkets and motivate other supermarkets to make a change.
