In a recent newsletter from HEATED, Emily Atkin relays how a HEATED reader, Mary Rose LeBaron, moved from awareness to action in regard to the behaviour of the utility in her area. After reading the HEATED newsletter from August 10 which highlighted electric utilities funding the American Gas Association, LeBaron was motivated to reach out to the San Mateo Climate Action Team.
Working together with over 150 people, a campaign was launched to ask PG&E, one of the utilities, to reconsider this relationship. The campaign grew when twenty other organizations joined to support the campaign.
What can you take from this example of action to use in your community? A good first step might be to do a bit of Googling and find out whether there is a climate action group in your local area that you can team up with.
