Earlier this week, we shared a link to Allan Savory’s TED talk on desertification.
In the years since that video went live, a wide range of sources have pointed out significant flaws in his theory and in the assertions that are made about it. There are several key problems, the biggest one being the spectacular impact cows have on the climate, together with the inefficiency that raising cattle at scale produces.

The lesson here is that there are no simple and easy answers to the systems problem in front of us. It’s worth digging deeper into what we see and hear to understand the forces at work. We’re going to have to reimagine most of the systems in our lives, and do it right now.
Most of all, it’s a reminder that we can’t wait for perfect. The only way to make an impact over time is to begin, to experiment and to improve.
