Is that really made from oil?

Many companies make products that include petroleum components, either as raw materials or in their manufacturing, packaging, shipping, or other processes.

Take a look at this list of Products Made From Petroleum from the US Department of Energy. It’s pretty amazing how oil or gas-derived ingredients are in so many things we use - and even put in our mouths - nearly every day.

When it’s time to replace these items in your household, consider trying a non-petroleum-based alternative that works better for the world, and works for you too. And then teach your kids and spread the word.

This could be a fun project for a family or group of friends. Each person could research and pick product alternatives to replace the fossil fuel-using ones they have, then share their recommendations with the others. In no time, you will have a new list of the best manufacturers producing sustainable alternatives to share with all your family and friends.

Try this search as a fun first step, then keep going and find the non-petroleum-based alternatives for you and our planet!
