Are you a young person, or the parent of one, who is struggling to come to terms with burgeoning climate anxiety and desperately wanting to learn how to take action now, to find ‘your people’ in this effort and to play your part in shaping the world of the future?
The Sunrise Movement in the United States, a justice collective that is headed up by young people has started a ‘Green New Deal’ campaign for schools in which students demand “that their districts teach climate justice, create pathways to green jobs after graduation and plan for climate disasters, among other policies.”
So far more than 50 schools in the US have signed on to the campaign and students are asking school boards and policy makers “to update school buildings, buses and other infrastructure to make them more climate resilient. They are also asking that administrators develop climate disaster plans to keep students safe during extreme weather, and free and ideally locally sourced lunches.”
