The amount of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest has been decreasing steadily over the past several months, month compared to the same period a year ago.
This is good news as many different species call the rainforest home and the rainforest helps mitigate climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide.
One of the key reasons for this reduction is the policies of the new Brazilian government and a recommitment to conservation as 60% of the Amazon rainforest is found in Brazil.
