Curbside Idling Chat

Scene: Curbside near house

Situation: Courier walking back to his truck with idling engine after delivering package

Me: (friendly) “Hey, can I ask you a question?”

Courier: “Sure.”

Me: “Did you know that an idling truck engine can emit up to several thousand kilograms of CO2 annually?”

Courier: “Oh no, I did not know that.”

Me: “Do you have kids?”

Courier: “No, but I want to.”

Me: “If you turn off your engine, your future kids will thank you for that.”

Courier: “How’s that?”

Me: “CO2 is directly responsible for the Earth's heating and oceans rising.”

Courier: “My engine?”

Me: “All engines around the world”.

Courier: ”Thanks for pointing it out, I’ll start today.”

Me: “That’s great, you’ll do good.”

End scene
