Climate and agricultural disease

Did you know: Farms worldwide currently lose about 15% of their crops to disease?

And 80% of all plant diseases are caused by fungi. The Irish Potato Famine, for example, was caused by a fungal disease known as blight.

Fungi thrive in temperatures of 20-30ºC (68-86ºF). If global temperatures continue to increase, scientists expect to see fungal diseases increase as well–especially in northern climates. This could have a significant impact on regional food security.
