A Swedish solar truck

A truck almost completely covered in solar panels is the result of a a collaboration involving Scania, Uppsala University, Eksjö Maskin & Truck, Midsummer, Ernsts Express, and Dalakraft. The solar panels on the truck of reduces costs of operation and local emissions.

In Sweden, the panels give “the hybrid truck a prolonged driving range of up to 5.000 kilometers annually” whereas in sunnier countries like Spain, “the vehicle can double the amount of solar energy and thus driving range.” The need for lightweight solar panels on a vehicle (as opposed to on a stationary object like a building) contributed to these ultralight panels which very efficiently transform sunlight to electricity.
